Impulse Forming Methods

Vaporizing Foil Actuators

The use of a high current to vaporize a thin metal foil, which then expands, propelling a work piece towards a die in order to shear, to form, or to weld.

Electromagnetic Pulse

The use of electromagnetic forces to accelerate a workpiece into a die in order to join, to compress, or to expand.

Pulsed Laser

The use of a laser pulse to superheat an ablative layer, which then expands and accelerates a flyer in order to join, to weld, to shear, or to emboss.
